Medusa Time Machine

For the final project of my first year, I designed a fictional time machine inspired by Ancient  Greece. The concept centred on Medusa's severed head mounted within an Ionic marble column,  with interchangeable frosted glass eyes controlling how long a user would remain "petrified" before  reawakening in the future.

The head was built around a dental skull, sculpted with Milliput, armature wire, heat-formed cling  film, recycled snakeskin, and UV resin eyes. Six silicone snakes were cast from a single mould and  individually back-painted to create unique colouration and scale patterns. Their heads were  modelled in Rhino, 3D printed, detailed with lentils as scales, and fitted with wire armatures for  posing.

The plinth was constructed from acrylic tube with lathe-turned and laser-cut components, finished  using feathered marbling techniques. The interchangeable mask was fabricated from EVA foam,  textured with Milliput, and finished with iron paste, Goldfinger waxes, and hand-sculpted details.  The project combined storytelling, sculpting, mould making, CAD, machining, painting, and prop  design into a single cohesive piece.
